Tigers On the Brink
It is estimated that only 3000 tigers remain in the world. Tiger farms in China are pressuring officials to lift a 16-year ban on the sale of tiger parts. These farms raise tigers as a commodity, and reigniting this market for parts could wipeout decades of conservation efforts. Poaching still continues. To help contact WWF.

Bears
Today, only 1200 bears remain in the lower 48 states. Their survival is threatened daily by illegal poaching, construction, habitat loss, and various mining and drilling projects. Death at the hands of humans is the most common cause of mortality.

Whales
Despite a moratorium on international whaling since 1986, several countries (Japan, Denmark, Norway) continue to hunt whales. At present, nine of 13 great whales are listed on the endangered species list.

Wolves
Gray wolves in the southwest are the rarest and most endangered species of wolf in the world. However, all wolves are under fire (literally) in several states, such as Alaska, Idaho, and Wyoming, as a result of conflicts with farmers and ranchers. Some states allow the wolves to be shot from airplanes.
Wolf Awareness Week is October 11-17.

more than 30 issue-focused environmental education and advocacy projects.

Shifting Baselines
This group aims to educate the public through entertainment. The videos are great. From the main page, the Inspirational one is touching and the Ridiculous one is absolutely amazing, SNL/daily show quality. If you go to the video page you can watch the Tiny Fish Public Service Announcement which educates the public about Marine Protected Areas, and was quite controversial.

Los Angeles Zoo Elephant Rescue
The Los Angeles Zoo has a horrendous record with elephants. Since 1975, 13 elephants have died there. More than half of them did not reach 20 years of age, which is extremely short for this species. Go to the website to see video of Billy and his conditions, updates on the campaign for his emancipation, and how YOU can help. Cruelty in any form is horrible, especially for animals.
